Thou Shalt Not Kill – Anything?

So as lovers of God and Christians we must never kill right? Never kill a chicken a pig, a fish, deer, never kill a rabbit, never kill an amoeba, never kill a germ? Hmm… now I really am confused.

Alright, I guess it’s obvious it doesn’t mean don’t kill a germ – I mean germs are bad right so we should kill them wherever possible (unless they are those good germs that help our immune system to stay strong).

So perhaps it means; don’t kill anything that’s good. But Jesus said there is none that is good. So then perhaps it means don’t kill someone who is innocent. Hmm but we are all guilty of something bad.

OK – I’ll stop the silliness now. Jesus said about killing; “do no murder” – ahh now we are getting somewhere. Do not intentionally or unintentionally kill someone that is innocent of a crime according to the law of the land. Wow – that was simple.

So yes – do not kill is the commandment. And God doesn’t treat us like idiots and qualify it with; except if a germ, chicken or a pig. No he treats us like sons and daughters He respects our intelligence and states a plain simple command – do not kill the innocent. “It is mine to avenge.”

Murder and Killing Can Be VERY Different!

So the commandment Do Not Kill is referring to murdering and yes they are different. Please note that all murder is killing, but not all killing is murder – since murder is the intentional killing for revenge or another evil purpose. Of course someone can run me over and kill me by accident and this is not murder – not premeditated and a mistake on the driver’s part.

We must take all these things into account and treat the Bible as it treats us – with respect and use spiritual eyes (ask the Holy Spirit for a pair of these) not our physical eyes only that may give us a single but not necessarily the full meaning of any subject.
