Marriage

Marriage Was Once a Covenant. Now it’s a Contract

Is there a difference? Oh yes – a contract is where, if one party breaks a contract – the other party is released. This does not apply to covenant and unfortunately for many that think that falling out of love (as I was once inclined to think) or your spouse being maimed or even unfaithful is a reason to get divorced – sorry to break the news – but it’s not.

Did God divorce Israel when they went astray?.. or us Gentiles who do the same every day?.. never!

It’s the reason that the disciples almost complained to Jesus and said (paraphrase); “well if that’s the case surely it’s better not to marry?” Well – they had a point as marriage is for men not boys. You see marriage never was about being in love or falling in love – it was and always will be (in God’s eyes) about service, and commitment to a person other than ourselves – a giving and service through which one can be greatly blessed. I’ll let someone much wiser than me in matters of marriage and divorce explain below.
