Apostasy

Judas Was a Most Reliable Man

We always think of Judas as the nasty one, when in fact all the disciples, like all of us had their bad points and were all at times dishonest to themselves and others. But we rarely think of Judas in the light that he must have been considered by his fellow disciples. Judas must have been regarded by them – and Jesus – as a – if not the most reliable members as they gave him charge of looking after the cash and provisions.

Satan always seeks to control the purse strings

And we also know that the Devil – always a control freak – always insists on controlling the purse strings in countries, organisations and in the lives of individual’s. And what do we find with the group of Jesus disciples? Satan once again, then just as now controlling the money and in his mind perhaps the whole group, not realising the power wielded by his master, and that every breath he took was a gift from him. The Bible tells us plainly that the root of all evil can be traced back to the love of money (i.e the power it brings). To be in charge of the money Judas would likely have to know everything about each man at all times.

But as we know the story ends badly for Judas. Perhaps by entertaining the idea that Jesus was not who he said he was, he became blind and that’s why he betrayed him, or maybe he was misguided, a good man that made a mistake – or – maybe he really was just plain evil, we don’t know. But one thing was for sure, he was reliable in Jesus’ life and reliable in his death when he delivered his master up to be killed. But we should all be careful not to let our hearts become hard and unbelieving – so easy in this hard world.
