Dutch Teeneager is Legally Euthanised after Being Raped as a Child

Brace yourself for this very sad story. A Dutch 17 year old girl – a mere teenager has been euthanised after suffering terrible depression and PTSD as a result of sexual a assault. She wrote in her online posts;

“After years of fighting and battling, I am drained,”

“I have quit eating and drinking for a while now, and after many discussions and evaluations, it was decided to let me go because my suffering is unbearable.”

She also added;

“Love is letting go, in this case,” she ended her post.

on Sunday Noa’s sister Isa Pothoven took to Instagram after the teen’s assisted suicide to make a moving tribute in a now-deleted post – remembering her as a

“sweet, beautiful and caring person. Sleep well sweetheart, we will miss you.”

So how can this happen? It appears doctors must deem a person’s life to be unbearable to give the all-clear  in accordance with the stringent terms of the controversial “Termination of Life on Request and Assisted Suicide (Review Procedures) Act,” which was made law back in 2002. A child as young as 12 in the Netherlands can seek euthanasia – although those under 16 need parental consent to take their own lives in this manner.

It just shows how tormenting sexual assault can be, and to think – once upon a time murder and rape were the norm in societies all over the world – and in some places still is. Even in recent wartime history we have seen the hardening of battle bringing out the worst side of human nature in seemingly ‘normal’ folks perpetrating terrible atrocities on civilians that just happen to being to the nation they are fighting against. It’s quite easy to assume that we as a species are getting better but such situations show us what lurks under the veneer of humanity given enough pressure or reason to vent anger and frustration.
