So the neigh-sayers think themselves bright to point out that non-believers are capable of being moral to preserve law and order? But tribes have always done that. Animals do it – but not for moral reasons as they try to tell folks – but for self. This is the whole point that Jesus – our model made (not the immoral leaders they cite) – that left to his own devices men can and are frequently worse than animals (as the religious examples often cited to discredit Christianity clearly show) and that God wants men to rise above animals – not be moral just to save our own skin. That is not morality.
Anyone can ride on the coat-tails of the Bible and and the awesome power of God’s prescribed laws for a just prosperous society or grand institution – and many have abused this liberty
So no – Western civilisation was not built on corrupted religion or corrupt morals of religious leaders (I wish neigh-sayers wouldn’t give examples of bad men or institutions to discredit Christ) but it was built squarely on the Bible – in spite of it’s leader’s morals or lack of, and many people and institutions have ridden on its coat tails and used it’s power to build empires. The Bible is quite clear that the laws of god are written on the hearts of ALL men – therefore pre-Abraham. Who would deny that all men know in their hearts it’s wrong to murder, not to honour parents or covet?
Abraham just codified them for the Israelites as a mirror and a simple – set of laws as men – in this case the Israelites – frequently forget them and behave worse than animals and continued to – so remember God was harsh with His own people. 90% the world’s problems would evaporate if men just adhered to 1 commandment; DO NOT COVET (ie land/wealth etc etc).
Democracy is not the biblical prescription for government. It’s just kings – the trouble is kings are rarely just – so as Winston said, democracy is where we end up until we get a just king which will never happen if he is earthly – hence democracy is our best option until the real king (God) returns – wether you believe in that is a different matter. Jesus correctly stated we are all of of one blood – ie human blood – the human race – mixed perhaps but there are no pure races like some would like to believe.
But the neigh-sayers will get their heart’s desire, and Christianity will be abolished – The Bible says so, and they will inherit a pseudo-freedom – a society where everything has the appearance of freedom, but where there is no freedom at all if you step out of line or hold a view that is contrary to the state. We see that emerging in China and other places already. If that’s what people want – God will give it to them. He’s in the business of giving people their heart’s desires.
