Bill Gates & Melinda Announce Divorce

After 27 years of marriage – Microsoft co-founder William Gates – known as ‘Bill’ to the rest of us (who is only worth around $130 billion) and his wife Melinda Gates – are getting a divorce. The couple announced this Monday in a joint statement probably on the awful site that is Twitster. Whilst I am surprised in the sense I imagined they were inseparable because of their foundation – at the same time I am not. There must be a tonne of pressure and temptations and probably ego issues when you are working at those heights – though I cannot say that has anything to do with it.

As one might expect, they put out the usual split-up Tweets/statements with the usual; “we need space – and can no longer grow together” – translation: “‘We’re bored of each other and no longer want to honour our marriage vows or the classic – marriage is just a piece of paper anyway,” (clearly not judging by some of the settlements:)

OK – that isn’t what they said and I shouldn’t be mean – no divorce is nice and it’s bound to hurt them both, as despite many theories on the Internet – they are human and I believe they really do believe in what they are doing – even if from a Christian perspective it may lack wisdom. Lord I pray that they BOTH come to a knowledge of you. Nevertheless modern divorce statements amongst celebs and the rich and powerful are very predictable – even though I must admit I thought Bill and Melinda were thick as thieves when it comes to their plans for re-making the world and ridding it of disease and poverty. Could it be Melinda or even Bill couldn’t deal with huge weight that shouldn’t be on their shoulders any more? Who knows – more information will come out in time – no doubt in a book or three.

Bill & Melinda Gates announce divorce – their actual statement..

“After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage,” a statement from the billionaire philanthropist couple, tweeted from both of their personal Twitter accounts at 4:30 p.m. EST, reads.

“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives,” the statement goes on.

“We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
